Recap of January
January has come to an end, man time is flying! But once again, January, just like last year, been an amazing month. DWjanuary.. it is a thing. But rather than just accepting that to be the case, let's actually think about why it has been the case and what we could have done better.
The things that have been going well:
- Consistency, I have been extremely consistent with streaming, as well as putting out content on Socials (Been able to increase it to 2 posts a day), blog updates, engaging in discord... Really happy with my work ethic currently.
- Structure, it was one of my goals to waste less time and to find more calm and peace in my mind through all the chaos that all the projects that I take on. I have been meditating every day so far, mainly at the night but when I have finished the sleep course of Headspace I may shift it. As I find it easy to let my brain vibrate at a high rate in the night, which allows me to be really creative and productive and meditating allows me to guide those thoughts and also find calmness when I want to go to sleep. I am becoming more and more capable of applying it to my day to day life as well, but meditating in the day may help even more reaching that level of intelligence. So I feel like I have been improving a lot mentally, but of course I still have my bad moments or bad days. But where I was off the grid for a long time last year, I become better and better at bouncing back, sometimes within a few minutes even. Just more capable of finding my calm again and be able to put things into perspective.
- I have been reading almost every single night before meditating, it helps me to relax but also to continue to expand my knowledge. Currently I am reading books such as: Ego is the Enemy, Think and Grow Rich, Gary Vee Crush it, Tribe of Mentors and I asked for my Birthday some books as well: 7 habits of highly effective people and The 12 rules of life.- I am also really happy that I got others to start blogging, I think the whole atmosphere in Discord is really positive and it feels like the community feeling is getting stronger and stronger which is essential to be able to grow as a community but also on a personal level it is really nice.
- I have also been spending more quality time with the family and friends. I of course took my mom and grandmom out for lunch after the Thrill score, but also just chilling with the family on a Friday Night watching some TV is really nice. Just giving them the feeling I am actually there, instead of a guest in a hotel. I also bought some tickets for festivals this year, so really looking forward to that. And this year I also decided to give a party for my birthday, which I feel really good about and think it is going to be an absolute blast. Kinda crazy to think about the fact that those people are actually coming for me... good feeling to be honest.
- Another big goal of mine was of course: more volume. I am talking about poker. And I am happy to say I have been able to do that. We had a really slow start of January, needed some time to change gears after the festive season. But we managed to do it. Content machine is running and the poker machine has started running as well. I have played 430 games so far this year, which means we are on the right track to reack 5K games. And that while I still feel like I could have grinded harder than I actually did. Main reason is because I started 12 tabling again instead of 6, which I think is fine, considering I am now in a better state mentally. I can focus better, maintain it for a longer period, keep my cool better... But... It does go at a cost of course. The level of play. And with that we come to the topic what hasn't gone too well this month.
The things that could have gone better:
- Study, I haven't been studying as much as I wanted to. I have been doing some reviews, but they were all... let's call it... I don't want to call it pointless but.. aimless? Doing some reviews here and there, but not actually attacking certain spots. Work on UTG vs BTN for example and then every stackdepth or work on a certain boardstructure. I think these kind of methods are way better than just doing some random handreviews, as now it becomes really tough to remember things as I also don't make notes or anything. I also haven't been consuming that much content, haven't watched all the RYE videos for example.. So for next month I really would like to tripple down on studying, especially in a more structured way.
- Subtitles, I offered RYE to add English Subtitles to the Tournament Masterclass. It is way more of a tedious job than I initially thought, but I also have just been mainly focussing on other things. In my opinion I have still wasted a bit too much time here and there, so there is still room to optimize my time which I can then spend on taking care of this project, which also immediately helps me improve my game.
All in all, I think January has been a great month for me. I created a great foundation, the machine is running at maximum speed, just some things can still be optimized. Last year February was somewhat of a disaster after a great January, but as I became more self-aware, I hope to prevent that from happening this year and continue doing what I am currently doing. Goals for February are then also not any different, as I think we are on the right track. I am really excited for what's coming, maybe 2019 is actually going to become the year of DWstevie.
